Newark, NJ
Downtown Newark
The civic and cultural spine of New Jersey's largest city. Home to NJPAC, the Newark Museum of Art, and Prudential Center, Downtown Newark is in the middle of a long conversation about what it means to be a city that was never given up on. Creative businesses operate alongside community institutions. Something is happening here — and it has been Newark's own from the start.
Community Picks
Real businesses in this neighborhood that haven't joined TheGoods yet.
A community kitchen pop-up collective operating out of a shared commissary space near Military Park. Five home cooks rotate monthly. The lineup changes but the prices stay community-conscious. On Wednesdays it's West African. On Fridays it's whatever Grandmother Rosa decides to make.
50 Park Place, Newark, NJ
A Dominican bakery supplying conchas, tres leches, and special-order cakes to families across Newark. Operated by the Paulino family from a licensed home kitchen. They take pre-orders for quinceañeras, graduaciones, and first communions — and they have never missed a delivery date.
Downtown Newark, NJ
A breakfast-and-lunch counter that has fed Downtown Newark workers since 1987. Counter seating only. The menu is a laminated single page that hasn't changed substantially in fifteen years — if it hasn't changed, it's because there's been no reason to change it. Pork roll egg and cheese on a hard roll is the standard by which all others in Newark are judged.
